wish i was there

I've started working in the Broadcasting station from this week, so have been busy. Therefore, I haven't eaten out much. Actually i had lunch outside several times, but couln't take my camera out when i ate with my bosses. sigh...

those pics below are from my sister. She and her husband had a wonderful lunch in Jeonju city which is famous for Bibimbap. The pictures made my mouth water just looking at them.

Jeonju Bibimbap

Look at the table! There are almost about 20 side dishes. wo0000! I especially want to eat boiled(steamed) egg in the pot (which is in the middle of the picture). Can't believe they finished all of the food at the table after eating Dunkin dounut! (see under the table) ;p

close up picture of Bibimbap

I usually like my bibimbap in dolsot (stone pot) because i can enjoy 누룽지 (scorched rice crispy on the botton of the pot), but the bibimbap in the traditional shiny brassware looks nice, isn't it?

Sam gyup sal, again

Sam-gyup-sal & Doen-jang jjigae

Sam-gyup-sal(sliced pork on the grill) & Doen-jang jjigae (bean paste stew) are always my favorite food. (Forget the diet!)
Around Hong-dae area, there is one street lined with Sam-gyup-sal restaurants (near the railroad). It's the best place to hang around with friends after drinking or clubbing. ;p
The restaurant where i went to is 기찻길 소금구이 (홍대).

Take away lunch box

Take away Lunch Box

I really don't like going out when it rains outside. So my friend came to my house with this lovely takeaway lunch box. It contained Kimchee (of course ;), salad, Pork cutlet, fried chicken (just one piece :< ), furikake sprinkled rice, brown sauce in a small container, Yakult, rolled egg, fish boiled in Soya sauce, sliced lotus root cooked with syrup and soya sauce, picked radish, seaweed salad. This was for one person. 0.0

Holiday Bindaetok

Bindaetok (Mung Bean Pancakes)

the restaurant we had our dinner last nite had a huge pan for cooking many kinds of pan fried food. I love Bindaetok (those which are on the pan), but we didn't order any. They usually put sliced pork when they cook Bindaetok in the restaurant, but i don't like mine with pork. So i don't usually eat them outside.

My aunt always cooks Bindaetok(she puts lots of vegetables including 고사리(?), pepper, mung bean sprouts, and Kimchee, but without pork) for Chusok(Korean thanks giving day) and Sulnal(New year's day) coze her husband's hometown was in North Korea. Also, she cooks Mandu-guk(Dumpling soup), and melt-in-your-mouth Galbi jim(braised short ribs). Apparently, those are the food for holidays in NK. I can't wait till next Sulnal. Ahhhh....

Eat out 2: Katsura

Japanese Izakaya(pub), Katsura

(clockwise from top left)

pic1. Potato Croquettes
crispy bread crumbs outside, soft mashed potato inside.
pic2. Donkatsu (pork cuttlet) & spring rolls
This was offered for free.
Cheers to the chef! Recommed you to sit at the bar. ;)
pic3. Sanma Shioyaki(grilled mackerel pike)
my friend couldn't wait till i took a pic. see her chopstics?
pic4. Hire Sake
served warm with a grilled fin in it. a ittle smoky and mild taste.
It was nice to drink warm sake on a cold winter night.

Katsura is located opposite Myung-dong Lotte young plaza. (Euljiro ipgu tube station, gate 6)
It's very small but had a warm typical(?) Izakaya atmosphere. Also, food there wasn't that expensive. But, a glass of sake was about 7000won. (so, more expensive than soju? hehe)
We went there after dinner, so couldn't eat much(?).
will visit there again to try batter fried oyster.

Eat out 1: Sinssi hwa ro in Myung-dong

Sam gyup sal & Cha dol bak ee on the grill.

So, the first post starts with my visit to Korean barbecue restaurant the other day.
The restaurant, Sinssi hwa ro is a popular korean barbeque place that serves pork, beef and even sea food. There are about 30 branches in Seoul.

Myung dong branch was quite small, but it had a cozy and modern atmosphere. Like other korean barbecue places, we cooked the meat over charcoal grill on our table.

We ordered Sam gyup sal(sliced pork, looks like Bacon) and Cha dol bak ee (thinly sliced beef). It was quite tasty, but food portion was too small. I had a bowl of rice and doen jang jji gae (bean paste soup) after the barbecue, but my stomach wasn't quite happy. :(( (is it just my problem?)

The dipping sauce(soya based) was pretty good. I liked steamed egg in a pot which was served as one of side dishes.(see the picture)

Onion slices, kim chee (it was really good when cooked with pork fat!)
and garlic slices in a tin foil were also cooked on the grill.

Over all, the food wasn't the best, but we enjoyed our meal.
Considering the price, however, i have to say that the service wasn't that good.
